Electronica crew ZibraZibra release previously unpublished ‘Mercury’ LP

The Minnesota gang of electro-pop rockers known as ZibraZibra have released their latest full-length record, “Mercury.” It is comprised of previously unpublished music from their 2010 LP of the same name. The album has been proudly published on their independent music label, Minneapolis-based Royalty, Etc. Records. Exploding with energy, bouncing with rhythm and showcasing some of the most colorful and ingenious compositions from the band yet, “Mercury” is definitive proof that ZibraZibra can provoke dance from coast to coast and truly anywhere in the world.

Listeners ready to pass judgment without further ado are encouraged to sample the record’s single, “Marie Antoinette,” at their earliest convenience.

“Mercury” is technically the fourth ZibraZibra album, first recorded in 2010. It is preceded by 2006’s “The End of the Lion,” 2007’s “777,” and 2009’s “Supplemental Material.” It was followed by their most recent LP, “Mr. Synthetic,” which turned heads internationally and introduced ZibraZibra (and Royalty, Etc. Records) to a whole new generation of listeners in 2013, almost a whole decade after the band’s formation.

The sound of ZibraZibra can range from the ambitious to the audacious and from the impertinent to the downright silly. Asked to cite some main artistic influences, the band writes:

“Moonlight walks on the beach, fruit smoothies, and horseback riding!”

In ZibraZibra’s repertoire audiophiles can expect to be reminded of eighties and early-nineties synth-pop bands and electro-pop groups like Echo and the Bunnymen and the Human League. In the band’s more sober moments, they can even invoke a more disco-minded Depeche Mode.

Commenting on their selections on “Mercury,” they write, “This was actually recorded during a dark time in the band’s history. The majority contributions were from Neil Z and Vanilla (shredding on guitar).” Whether the band say this tongue-in-cheek or in earnest is impossible to discern.

Upon being asked to divulge where they began playing and where they’re based now, they state, “We have been digitally copied to the internet and live there.”

ZibraZibra’s representation say of “Mercury,” “This album was almost lost to the sands of time, but Royalty, Etc. shook the ZibraZibra tree and this ripe fruit (shaped like a pair of testicles) fell right down into our mouths – and now it’s being issued to all.”

“Mercury” from ZibraZibra on Royalty, Etc. Records is available online worldwide now. Get in early, electro-pop fans. Very early.

ZibraZibra release new LP ‘777 (Deluxe Edition)’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The wildly creative synth music rockers known as ZibraZibra have released their popular sophomore LP album, “777,” in an all-new deluxe edition. The deluxe edition contains fully one hour of excellent music listening in 20 original tracks, including the 12 first published as the “777” LP. The deluxe edition has been made available for a very small amount more than the original record, and features eight bonus songs for an approximate total listening time of twenty minutes between them. The bonus tracks also include the new title track to the deluxe edition, “777.”

The first edition of “777” by ZibraZibra appeared in July of 2007, between their debut record release, “The End of the Lion” and their November 2013 LP, “Mr. Synthetic.” The new album has been released on the Royalty, Etc. music record label, as has the entirety of the ZibraZibra repertoire.

ZibraZibra is from the much underrated Minnesota indie music underground (Minneapolis and Stockholm, respectively) where their exponentially growing fan base has been following them for the better part of a decade. Their style mixes late seventies and early eighties pop rock acts such as Prince, Queen, Devo, and incorporates a smattering of the old-school hip-hop sound. They have been featured live on national television and have released official music videos as well, debuted by their 2007 video, “Cruisin’.”

They are at least as well known for their outlandish neon costumes, largely constructed out of spandex, as they are for their catchy, danceable music. A healthy dose of good humor also suffuses the ZibraZibra sound, and a listen-through of any of their releases is undeniably fun, unstoppably optimistic, and absolutely worth the price of admission – particularly when they are offering eight bonus tracks on the new deluxe edition for merely .50 cents more at Amazon.

“777 (Deluxe Edition)” from ZibraZibra is available online worldwide.

ZibraZibra release new LP ‘Mr. Synthetic’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The Minnesota synth rock crew known as ZibraZibra have officially pre-released their long-awaited LP record, “Mr. Synthetic.” The album is comprised of nine all-new original tracks from ZibraZibra on the Royalty Etc. Records music label, and is the followup album to their two existing LPs, “The End of the Lion” and “777.” ZibraZibra are celebrating this pre-release of “Mr. Synthetic” by offering a very limited edition vinyl LP record in “hott” pink. The following details are faithfully reproduced as they appear on the official ZibraZibra website at zibrazibra.com.

“Mr. Synthetic LP

HOTT PINK 180-gram 12″ Vinyl.
Mastered from 96k/24bit source files.
Limited pressing of 500.

Pre-order includes immediate download of 2 tracks in your choice of high-quality MP3, FLAC, or other formats. A link to the complete album will be emailed to you the moment it’s released.”

Audiophiles unfamiliar with the tone and feel of ZibraZibra have a rare treat in store. ZibraZibra have an upbeat, synth-pop sound that is all their own, but which comes in a seemingly endless array of shades like the varying colors of a chameleon. Their extreme talent and elasticity sometimes recalls the style of Prince and sometimes Queen, sometimes Devo and sometimes DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. Their lyrics are ingenious, ridiculous, and hilarious. Their beats are solid and syncopated, their guitars top-notch ’80s fare, their synthesizers every bit as candy-coated good as synth ever was.

ZibraZibra cite as main artistic influences “Miley, Britney, Beyonce, and Paft Punk,” which is almost certainly yet another glimpse of their irrepressible senses of humor. Likewise, upon being asked to describe any theme or message their new LP, “Mr. Synthetic” might communicate, they reply:

“Girrrrrrrl, you ain’t never gonna get whatchu want lookin’ like a troll. Leave your busted-ass pajama pants at home, get your lip gloss poppin’, and dare to be pretty.”

This, however, is not an entirely tongue-in-cheek response, as their closing track on the record is indeed a rocking anthem of vanity titled, “Dare 2 B Pretty.”

“Mr. Synthetic” is available worldwide on limited edition “hott” pink 180-gram vinyl from ZibraZibra.com now. Get in early.

ZibraZibra releases new LP ‘The End of the Lion (Deluxe Edition)’

The wildly eclectic electronica band known as ZibraZibra have re-released their early LP, “The End of the Lion,” in a new, deluxe edition of their original classic. The album has been released on the Royalty, Etc. Records music label. Boasting 14 tracks for an approximate total of nearly 50 minutes’ worth of highly creative, remarkable listening time, “The End of the Lion (Deluxe Edition)” by ZibraZibra also includes two bonus tracks, “Well, Minnesota” and “Goodnight Rockstar.”

Hailing from Minnesota, ZibraZibra are well known in that locale and abroad for having an insanely upbeat and vibrant live show to go with their endlessly fun and energetic records. This particular album, “The End of the Lion (Deluxe Edition),” is reputed on the band’s official Facebook page to have been recorded long before ZibraZibra’s wide (and sterling) reputation had been earned – back when the band members were still suffering through high school.

With this in mind, “…Lion” is an LP that bespeaks great amounts of talent and personality. ZibraZibra defy pigeonholes and create music unlike that of any other music group. Additionally, they have a stunning amount of ability and scope in terms of style, and “…Lion” switches themes and feels from song to song with alacrity. That said, every song is genius, and every track is wonderful entertainment, regardless of whether it be a bizarre twist on the old ’80s hair metal thing, or a low-fi 8-bit video game composition with Devo-esque vocals on top.

Bottom line: this not-totally-sane crew of musicians hit the ground running with their fantastic “The End of the Lion” LP, and though they haven’t garnered the attention of the mainstream just yet, this is plainly a matter of time. Get in early, audiophiles.
