Pop-punk clan Our Untold Story release official video ‘Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors’

The Swedish punk rock crew called Our Untold Story have released their latest official video, “Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors.” Like the rest of the OUS catalog, the video has been proudly published on the Cuprite Productions independent record label without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Driving, upbeat, minimalist and thrumming with energy, “Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors” is the most significant official video from Our Untold Story to date.

Our Untold Story’s Xander Turian has cited as main artistic influences such legends as Iggy & the Stooges, the Hives, Green Day, and Blink 182, all of which groups boast similarities with Stockholm’s Our Untold Story. Turian has also mentioned a deep love for bands like the Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, the Doors and the Beatles, however, and this classic rock vein tempers OUS’s minimalist, pop-punk sound into something that is palatable to a surprisingly broad audience across cultures and ages.

In fact, this seemingly natural knack for rocking across boundaries is a central theme of their new “Calm Seas…” video. It speaks to everyone, woman and man, young and old alike.

“The message I want to portray, is that no matter which path you end up choosing, choose the one that makes you happy, not the one you think is expected of you,” writes Turian. “’Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors’ means that it is the rough times that truly make you who you are, and make you all the stronger for it.”

The video directed by Johannes S. Karpe portrays Xander Turian as an archetype of humanity growing up with rock ‘n’ roll music from toddler to family man. His youth is played by his real-life siblings, with a cameo of his actual father playing Turian at middle age with children of his own.

“As the song progresses,” says Turian, “we see the boy in his teenage years, clearly putting music to one side as he focuses on girls, only to find himself in a rut surrounded by trash and dusty instruments, trying to write a new song. After the realities of life have taken their toll and our protagonist reluctantly puts on a suit and tie, we see him in the future, settling down with his kids to watch the same band playing on the computer.”

The kids are all played by my younger siblings and the adult “future” me is played by my father.

“Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors” is the accompanying B-side to last year’s “Go for Broke,” which was also released by Our Untold Story with an official music video. Both are expected to feature on the upcoming Our Untold Story album, “My Dreams, My Rules,” which is rumored to have a 2018 drop date.

The “Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors” official video by Our Untold Story is available online worldwide for viewing now. Get in early.

Our Untold Story releases new official single ‘Go for Broke’

The European punk band known as Our Untold Story have released their newest official single, “Go for Broke.” The track has dropped concurrently with its B-side, “Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors.” Both have been proudly published on the XJT Music / Cuprite Productions independent record labels without the direction or support of the corporate music industry. Vocals belted out, speakers booming, guitars roaring, and drums played way down deep in the groove, “Go for Broke” and “Calm Seas Don’t…” are the latest reasons music fans everywhere should be paying strict attention to this explosive, unstoppable crew from Sweden.

Based in Stockholm, the heart of Our Untold Story is composer, singer and guitarist Xander Turian. As the founding member Turian has kept his group relentlessly active since 2012. He cites as main artistic influences the Doors, Iggy Pop, the Rolling Stones, Green Day, Foo Fighters, and the Hives. No one example from above represents the sound of “Go for Broke” or “Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors,” but the melange of all of them comes very close.

As a result, fans of verve-charged classic rock and the gritty, pulsing punk sound both will be enthusiastic to hear this new Our Untold Story release. Longtime fans of Xander Turian and Our Untold Story will find much in the singles for them, especially.

Speaking of the themes of these new tracks, Turian writes, “’Go for Broke’ is inspired by old poker-themed parties we used to have after our shows. We would invite fans, friends and crew to party backstage or back at my place and play poker. We partied all night long. During one of these parties, of course, there was a girl… There is always a girl.”

The title of the B-side, “Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors,” will sound familiar to some.

Writes Turian, “’Calm Seas…’ is an African proverb. It means that experience and wisdom are gained through rough patches and pitfalls in life. This is a song to remind us that what does not kill us only makes us stronger, to keep on pushing the boundaries of our comfort zones, to continually grow and to appreciate what we have and what we have achieved in life thus far.”

Recording with Our Untold Story on these tracks are Philip Bengtsson (drums) Johan Weidenhaijn (bass) Jonas Egnell (bass) Leonel Andersson (lead guitar) and Kris Lempiäinen (lead guitar). “Go for Broke” and “Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors” were recorded and produced by Dan Östlund and Fredrik Pettersson at Missing Man Recordings, Sweden, and Mastered by Eric Broyhill at Monster Audio Labs. Cover art for the release comes from Kamil CamKam Janowski for Kjanowski Photography.

“Go for Broke” and “Calm Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors” by Our Untold Story are available at over 700 digital music stores online worldwide beginning 3 June 2016. Get in early, rock fans.

Our Untold Story release new music video ‘Hell House’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The rock crew from Stockholm, Sweden known as Our Untold Story have released their newest music video, titled, “Hell House” (link provided below). The music video has been concurrently released with a behind-the-scenes short, featured on the official Our Untold Story YouTube channel. Set to the first single from their debut, self-titled EP released in January of 2013, “Hell House” takes the listener on a visual tour through the most-shadowy of the songs on their eponymous record.

Listeners unfamiliar with Our Untold Story may draw parallels between OUS and artists with particularly dark, punk-rock roots, such as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, or the Cramps. Their EP album, “Our Untold Story,” is a heroic journey in the traditional literary sense of the term. The band have no difficulties describing the plot of the record.

“The album depicts the story of lead singer, Xander, and his journey from his dark past through his teen years before finding the light,” writes Our Untold Story. “In the album we follow Xander as he steps into his darkest dreams within the ‘Hell House.’ [He then] fights with his inner demons and past relationships in ‘Devil Woman’ before finding his true love, who consumes his every thought in ‘Interlude.’”

At this point, the plot of the album takes a turn for the better.

“In ‘Rosy,’” they continue, “Xander reminisces and passes on his knowledge of the darker side of life, sharing both the good and the evil before rounding off with an ironic and fun-loving finale in ‘She’s the Girl,’ where everything finally ends up as it should be.”

The video showcases Our Untold Story as the dynamic and charismatic band they are famous in Europe for being. Singer Turian, as seen in the various live videos available for viewing online, befriends his audiences right away, and continues feeding this rapport from start to finish of every performance. Fans go away feeling as if they have been part of the Our Untold Story experience. He often invites crowd sing-alongs and addresses members of the audience directly.

Their official music video, “Hell House,” is available online worldwide for viewing beginning late November, 2013. Watch for their full-length LP debut album, currently in development.

Stockholm based rock band “Our Untold Story” releases self-titled EP

The Stockholm based rock band “Our Untold Story” has released their long awaited, extended play and self titled record to broad fan acclaim.

The Stockholm based rock band “Our Untold Story” has released their long awaited, extended play and self titled record to broad fan acclaim. The record is a heavy hitting rock and roll EP in the tradition of the best 1970s New York punk rock, although its thick classic rock influences often prevail, resulting in a sound that is edgy and subtly violent, yet surprisingly groovy and clean. Front man and songwriter Xander Turian provides stylishly warbling vocals in the tradition of the Misfits’ Glenn Danzig, while OUS’s jazzy, bluesy instrumentalist lineup demonstrates some of the most obviously powerful band chemistry since the Beatles. The “Our Untold Story” EP contains five tracks comprising approximately 22 minutes of music.

Since their inception, Our Untold Story has formed under the influence of several members who have since departed, but the EP showcases musicians Xander Turian on vocals and guitar, Johan Weidenhaijn on bass guitar, Oscar Magnuson on drums, and Mamud Miyan playing lead guitar. The band also regularly boasts of Andreas Westholm as their star producer, and the official Our Untold Story website names Dennis Manfredsson as their newest member on percussion (no fewer than sixty five drummers applied for the position).
Singer Turian names as the band’s main influences classic rockers like the Doors, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, and Black Sabbath; elements of each legendary music group are easily discerned in the “Our Untold Story” EP.

Additionally, Turian’s lyrics are carefully penned and show meticulousness in diction, moral, and symbolism. When asked about the message of their premier release, Turian writes, “The album shares the journey of a lost soul desperately searching for inner peace, trying to withstand the troubles the world throws. Love, passion, hate, death, drugs, violence, sex – everything the world has to offer in the way of confusion, before the light is apparent and total peace is truly achieved.”

“Our Untold Story,” the self titled EP is available online everywhere.
