Hesohi releases fifth LP album ‘Conversation’

The digital music artist known as Hesohi has released his fifth studio album, “Conversation.” The record contains six original Hesohi tracks and a bonus single for a total of an hour and fifteen minutes of listening. Five of these are available only with the entire record while tracks Two and Seven may be purchased as singles. The album has been proudly published on the LovethangBoomin’System independent record label without the involvement of the corporate music industry. An eclectic, post-modern take on trip-hop blended with ambient and classical composition methods, “Conversation” proves that Hesohi is an artist for the new millennium.

Hesohi cites as main artistic influences Art of Noise, Cinematic Orchestra, Towa Tei, Avalanches, Todd Rundgren, Kraftwerk, the Late Night Tales Series, and All Good Funk Alliance. But he’s not alone on “Conversation.” Joining Hesohi in the studio for his fifth full-length album are Douglas T. Martin, Derek Sibert, and Steve Fernandez.

Hesohi himself describes his new record as “downtempo,” but admits that “The first term that comes to mind is trip hop.”

“This music doesn’t contain the obligatory sample-based sounds that usually accompany the beats in this genre,” writes Hesohi. “The sound is synth-oriented, with live guitar and bass performances that sound like conversations between the instruments.”

This principle comes from classical music, where it is known as call-and-response, or antiphony. Also similar to classical composition forms is Hesohi’s carrying of themes throughout tracks 10 and even 20 minutes long, as well as across the entire record – or as the artist himself puts it: “The idea of the ‘track’ is expanded and transformed into the idea of the ‘composition,’ in the way that one might paint a picture onto a large canvas and later paint a mural onto a wall.”

“Conversation” is digital music for the connoisseur of sounds. To steal a phrase from one of Hesohi’s cited inspirations, Towa Tei, it is a sound museum.

Hesohi’s label, LovethangBoomin’System, says of the record that “There is a feel of a producer exploring the sensibility of techno at a much slower pace, and without the constraint of fitting the end result into kind some kind of format. The songs take their time to get where they are going. The attention to detail provides dynamics that move the listener through the arrangement effortlessly. The time passes in a comfortable manner. The mix is lush but unquiet with a good amount of animation.”

Speaking to his fans, friends and cohorts, Hesohi writes:

“Thanks to the people who have introduced me to so many beautiful songs. I am forever on a quest to listen and learn about the world and it’s inhabitants through culture and express myself with music. Thanks to the artists who inspire and energize my spirit. Thanks for the Family love and support. I appreciate very much the people of this planet. Partypeople, hold tight. We are gonna make it. Everything is gonna be alright. Stay positive. Spread love. Be kind to yourself.”

“Conversation” by Hesohi is available from LovethangBoomin’System online worldwide at over 700 quality digital music stores now.

Experimental musician B.E.N releases new ambient LP ‘Be Easy Now’

The bassist and producer of experimental music known as B.E.N has released his latest LP record, “Be Easy Now.” The album contains six original instrumental tracks for an approximate listening time nearing one hour. It has been proudly published on the Crooked Pants Publishing independent music label without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Soothing, beautiful, and remarkable in its ability to carry the listener on bass lines alone, “Be Easy” is a mellow, mindful treatment of ambient music for 2017 and beyond.

Experimental music mastermind B.E.N has cited as main artistic influences Claude Debussy, Brian Eno, Radiohead, Bill Frisell, and Explosions in the Sky. While this distinguished roster colors him as a listener of much scope and perspective, the nods to Debussy and Eno have most in common with his “Be Easy Now” LP is concerned. Expansive, expressive and lush like the surface of an ocean, “Be Easy Now” is pleasant to hear in nearly every imaginable circumstance.

More than just ambient music, though, “Be Easy Now” is actually a work of meditation. Read from top to bottom, the track listings form a peaceful mantra not unlike those invoked by practitioners of yoga and Buddhism. They are, “Breathe In,” “Deep End,” “Be,” “Easy,” “Now,” and “Breathe Out.” Full-sounding yet minimalist in its composition, every sound on the LP was emitted from a bass guitar.

B.E.N’s music has been described as, “the musical expression of regular, everyday life in a way that is completely irregular.”

His current official bio names him as Benjamin Ryan Williams, “a Texas-born, Atlanta-bred bassist with a penchant for combining his influences into a solo experimental musical style that is unlike any other.”

B.E.N has been a full-time musician since 2010, and has been performing and recording bass with folk icons, Indigo Girls, since 2012. He is also a first-call session player in Atlanta for top-shelf hip-hop producers such as DJ Burn One and DJ Toomp. B.E.N has stated that touring with a Grammy-winning folk group while recording with Grammy-winning hip hop acts helped him see “a common thread about harnessing the energy of originality through music: the rules are man-made.”

“B.E.N composes music with nods to folk, impressionism, and the avant-garde,” says the artist’s official bio. “The music is entirely comprised of sounds from the bass guitar, exploring fresh and exciting boundaries for the instrument. With thoughtful harmony, odd song structures, and opaque timbres, listening to B.E.N’s music is at times as similar to reading poetry as it is listening to a performance. Oddity made accessible … In a time when the music industry seems to have no rules, B.E.N has even less.”

“Be Easy Now” by B.E.N is available online worldwide beginning 28 January 2017. Get in early, ambient music fans.

Mark de Monoloq releases new LP album ‘Icosahedron’

The composer and producer of music known as Mark de Monoloq has released his newest LP album, “Icosahedron.” The record includes 20 original tracks for an approximate listening time approaching two hours. It has been proudly published as an independent release without the direction of the corporate music industry. Eclectic, ambient, experimental and exploratory, “Icosahedron” is Mark de Monoloq’s crowning achievement to date and a great reason for music fans to experience his repertoire right away.

Canada’s Mark de Monoloq cites as main artistic influences Boards Of Canada, Tycho, Flying Lotus, Justice, Brian Eno, Howard Shore, Jon Hopkins, Hans Zimmer, David Bowie, deadmau5, Björk, Aphex Twin, Imogen Heap, Moby, and James Newton Howard. This illustrious list proves Monoloq to be an artist with great music taste, and there are similarities between his work and elements from some of the above, but in the end his music is singular to his own creativity.

“I was introduced to the world of music around the age of 10 when I began taking piano lessons,” he writes. “I learned everything from theory to practice, which I was able to apply at the Royal Conservatory of Music.”

Though the result of classical training, Mark de Monoloq’s music remains surprising and hard to pin down. Asked to elucidate the intended themes and meanings of his rather expansive record, he suggests a natural, sonic subjectivity guiding the process.

“The truth is that there really is no message other than what you make it to be. Everything is completely abstract. Of course, there is the underlying tone that the ‘Icosahedron’ brings. Its association with the Sacral Chakra, and the element of water helps to add definition to texture and flow, along with passion and pleasure. But as far as images and messages go, you tell me!”

An icosahedron is a polygon with 20 sides. It’s no accident that Monoloq’s record contains the same number of tracks, each with its own style and character. His current official bio colors him as a personable, curious adventurer in sound:

“My name is Mark de Monoloq. I compose electronic music, or rather, electronically treated acoustic music. One of my favorite tools is my Zoom H4N [a specialized handheld microphone] which at times, makes me feel that the world around me is the true musician at play. I love experimenting with sound design and pushing the tools I own to their limits. Even then, those limitations can be broken with the right amount of creativity. My only true goal with my music is to experiment. Not everyone will have the same experience as I do when listening to my music, but I suppose that’s the point. It’s all completely abstract. There is no message or images other than what you make it to be. The way I see it, the more rules I break, the better!”

“Icosahedron” by Mark de Monoloq is available online worldwide from over 700 quality digital music stores now. Get in early.
