Composer Jason Gillard releases single ‘Determined’

The songwriter, composer and music producer known as Jason Gillard has released his latest official single track, “Determined.” The track has been proudly published as an independent release without the direction or financial support of the corporate music industry. Gilt with synthetic instrumentation and featuring melody lines that are sure to hook listeners of every music genre, “Determined” is an instrumental track which appropriately heralds the start of the autumn 2017 season.

Australian Jason Gillard makes music in the Queensland northeast corner of the land down under. “Determined” represents his first officially distributed song in the vast wilderness of independent music, but it is not his first composition.

“I created pieces of music before ‘Determined,’” he writes, “but once that was created I knew I had something special.”

The process of making the present instrumental single contributed much to the end product.

“I use specialized German music creation software to create the tracks,” says Gillard. “It’s actually quite funny as half the program is in German, so it made a bit of a challenge to create the tracks.”

Asked to list some main artistic influences, the composer and musician cites only the Irish pop rock group, U2. The flavor of U2 exists in “Determined” in Gillard’s prominent use of acoustic guitar and forward placement of the bass guitar in his final mix. His melodies are handled largely by synth brass instruments which sound akin to saxophones and have a warm, harmonious sound.

On the topic of the song’s themes, Gillard is a man of few words. He mentions only, “hope,” and “the power to dream.”

“Determined” by Jason Gillard is available online worldwide beginning 12 September 2017.

Instrumental heavy metal crew Manoue releases album ‘All the Devils Masters’

The veteran of orchestral heavy metal music known as Manoue has released his new full-length album, “All the Devils Masters.” The record contains 10 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of one hour. It has been proudly published as an independent work without the involvement of the corporate music industry. Towering, sweeping, aggressive and creative in equal parts, “All the Devils Masters” by Manoue is a collection of instrumental metal which deserves attention from metal fans around the world.

Manoue is Francois Jacques Manoue from Cape Town, South Africa. He cites as main artistic influences composers such as Tchaikovsky and Paganini, metal legends like Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth, modern groups including Opeth, Born of Osiris, Animals as Leaders, the Faceless, and Fleshgod Apocalypse, and integral songwriters such as Steve Vai, James Richardson, Paul Gilbert, and John Petrucci.

While elements of each of these can be easily picked out in Manoue’s “All the Devils Masters,” the overall tone and emotional theme is unique to Manoue, himself. The album’s sound has been described as being “composed of apocalyptic-, melodic-, death-metal inspired guitar parts and drum arrangements accompanied by expressive string sections and piano.”

Manoue himself describes his intent for the album as: “instrumental, progressive metal/rock fusion with an energetic edge executed with precision and melodic intensity.”

Asked to explain his impetus to create “All the Devils Masters,” a profoundly complex work of art, Manoue writes: “’All The Devils Masters’ is a tribute to all the musical masters who have inspired me on my journey and my career in music for the past 30 years. The album brings together the sounds from my heavy metal and classical roots and aims to transport the listener into an intensely complex visionary dimension of discovery, purging and enlightenment.”

Previous to “All the Devils Masters,” Manoue released four other records including 2011’s self-titled “MANOUE,” 2013’s “No Empire,” 2014’s “Ladders,” and 2016’s “Supreme Being.”

Composer Joseph P. Freije releases new ‘Jazz Beyond the Chaos’ LP

The music composer known as Joseph P. Freije has released his latest experimental music record, “Jazz Beyond the Chaos.” The album is comprised of 11 original tracks for a solid hour’s worth of listening. As part of the growing 2016 series of albums from Freije, it comes to the public from the Phrygian Music independent record label. Tirelessly creative, startlingly innovative and just plain fun to hear and fail to predict, “Jazz Beyond the Chaos” by Joseph P. Freije is the most surprising album of 2016 so far.

Freije’s favorite artists come from a variety of genres including (but not limited to) classic rock, jazz, classical, experimental, electronica and blues. This mix of influences is not useful in elucidating the kind of record which is “Jazz Beyond the Chaos,” however. Even compared to the rest of Freije’s catalog, “Jazz Beyond…” is a particularly varied collection of songs. This is a good thing because, like most of Freije’s music, categorization doesn’t help the music, doesn’t fit the music, doesn’t apply to what the artist has created.

Specific elements can be picked out, though. “Jazz Beyond the Chaos” utilizes electronica and early EDM beats and sounds as a foundation for a postmodern jazz form for 2016. He then takes these sounds and sculpts them into songs which would otherwise fit genres as disparate as house music and postmodern jazz, trance and adult contemporary, funk and 8-bit, acid jazz and drum ‘n’ bass. Fans of electronic music from both the old school and new have a treat in store with “Jazz Beyond…”

It is a record for music lovers. It is music for art fiends. Of particular note to audiophiles is “Different Roads Home,” one of two 10-minute overtures available only as B-side tracks for purchasers of the entire “Jazz Beyond the Chaos” album (the other nine songs have been concurrently released as singles).

And what of the LP’s title?

“Life is a rhythm, the result of a vibration that has always been in harmony with itself,” says Freije. “Our ability to perceive life may have started with a big bang, but that bang was just the opening of a door in space/time through which information could be carried to life in that space beyond the door the bang opened.”

Physicists, philosophers and spiritualists have theorized for centuries about the significance of rhythm, harmony and vibration. They are only recently very interested in the importance and implications of chaos, though.

“The chaos began to take form,” Freije says, “and the sound was called jazz. Jazz has become many forms of life, some which are beyond the chaos.”

Organized chaos is not a suitable description of this music. “Jazz Beyond the Chaos” is surgically accurate. It is a careful balance, itself carefully balanced against a natural ebbing and flowing of imbalance, and the result is something as easy to hear as falling rain or as fecund with intricacies to study as grandmaster-level chess games. It’s up to the listener.

“Jazz Beyond the Chaos” by Joseph P. Freije is available online worldwide. Get in early, fans of experimental music and postmodern jazz.

Musician Eliel Arrey releases ‘The Essentials’ LP

The composer and songwriter known internationally as Eliel Arrey has released his latest full-length record, “The Essentials.” The album contains no fewer than 20 tracks for an approximate total listening time of 80 minutes, making for a comprehensive collection of material from Arrey’s repertoire. It has been proudly published on the EA Music Group independent label. In addition to Eliel Arrey himself, the album features remarkable performances by Nasomi, Yolanda Arrey, and Steve Owner with an extended instrumental of Eliel Arrey’s ‘Paradise’ remix of Melissa Otero’s ‘Angels and Demons.'” Broadly varied, emotionally evocative, and showcasing the artist’s most innovative work to date, “The Essentials” from Eliel Arrey is indispensable for fans of pop music and epic anthems alike.

Eliel Arrey cites as main artistic influences two families of musicians: for his anthems and classical tracks, Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Thomas Bergersen, John Powell, Audiomachine, and Two Steps from Hell; for his EDM productions, David Guetta, Avicii, Jake Shanahan, and Hardwell.

These two musical identities dovetail smoothly on “The Essentials,” just as they intertwine in Arrey’s work in general. His electronica and pop music offerings tend to have aspects of classical narrative and sweeping, soaring waves of sound. Likewise, his classical compositions and soundtracks are marked with motivating narratives and memorable, catchy melodies as are found in his pop and EDM.

Speaking of his new “Essentials” record, Arrey writes, “Music has always been influenced by cultures. Every society/culture has a unique style to their music and different instruments sometimes trademark some cultures. Our album, ‘The Essentials,’ is meant to draw in music lovers from all backgrounds, cultures, and styles. Our listeners will notice many instruments not conventionally used in typical, everyday music.”

This is seen in his use of bagpipes to play the African Cameroonian National Anthem, in kalimbas which lay the down his verses in “Far Cry,” and his exploration of the violins and woodwinds of the Celtic hills. Each of these are showcased through the impeccable audio vision of sound director and senior sound engineer Kevin Monahan of Love Audio Mastering.

“’The Essentials’ is going to take every listener on an international journey,” says Eliel Arrey. “We hope that all our listeners can feel and appreciate the diversity we sought when we compiled this album. Our vocalists are nothing short of world-class, featuring the powerful Dutch artist, Nasomi and Salt Lake City’s finest, Yolanda. ‘The Essentials’ also boasts internationally acclaimed songwriter and engineer Steve Owner, as well as the extended instrumental rendition of Melissa Otero’s ‘Angels and Demons.’”

Songs on “The Essentials” come from many music genres, including new-age, modern classical, electro house, dance, hip-hop, R&B, orchestral, and world music. There’s also a song in honor of the late film-score legend, James Horner.

“We had a hard time picking what genre to list the overall album under,” Arrey says. “We love the diversity of the tracks in the project as it symbolizes the diverse influences we have had in our lives and the different cultures that have influenced us. Our goal is that everyone can find something that they can relate to when they play this album.”

With nearly every emotional hue coloring this striking example of unbridled innovation and musical alchemy, it’s improbable that the music fan won’t hear himself in it somewhere.

“So much love and hard work has gone into this project. It is our deepest honor to share this album with you and the rest of the world.”

“The Essentials” by Eliel Arrey from EA Music Group becomes available online worldwide 20 April 2016.
