Desert Sparrow releases debut EP ‘Leave This Town’

The indie music duo known as Desert Sparrow have released their debut EP record, “Leave This Town.” The record comprises four original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 18 minutes. It has been proudly published as an independent release entirely without support of the corporate music infrastructure. A seamless blend of contemporary folk and old-fashioned, bluesy rock ‘n’ roll, “Leave This Town” is a raw and unadulterated serving of sound any music fan can get behind.

The heart and soul of Desert Sparrow are Kylie Adams and David Carreno. They cite as main artistic influences Fleetwood Mac, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Kings of Leon, and Angus and Julia Stone. This list of legendary groups does not add up to a round understanding of the Desert Sparrow style, however. Desert Sparrow are natural musicians in the truest sense of the word. Their undeniably great vocals and refreshingly tasteful instrumentation are merely ancillary qualities, the proverbial icing on the cake in light of startlingly solid songwriting that is (literally) packaged for play on public radio around the world.

The sense of Desert Sparrow simply going outside to enjoy themselves with a song or two and incidentally making a four-star album is palpable. This unassuming goodness is also reinforced by a characteristic humility that can’t help but distinguish them in the land of competition that is Los Angeles. Asked to describe their start in music, this modesty is plain to see.

They write that they began by attending “Singer-songwriter nights for fun. Everybody around us kept hassling us saying that we needed to give the music business a shot.”

Asked to describe the underlying message of their first official album, Desert Sparrow explains that “The main theme of the EP is believing in your dreams. Don’t let anything or anyone get you down. Get out there and make it happen. Don’t conform because it’s easy, be true to yourself.”

“Leave This Town” by Desert Sparrow is available online worldwide.

Heru Khuti to release new singles ‘Wimbledon Carnival,’ ‘Premier League,’ and ‘Fantastic Cricket.’

The music project known publicly as Heru Khuti is slated to release a trio of new singles, titled “Wimbledon Carnival,” “Premier League,” and “Fantastic Cricket” respectively. The tracks are to be distributed to over 750 online music stores around the world, representing what is most certainly the most significant official music release of Heru Khuti to date.

The Heru Khuti music project is the brainchild of Dr. Noel A. Campbell, PhD, who writes all the Heru Khuti material and governs the music from his website based in Birmingham, UK (link provided below). Asked to cite some main artistic influences, Dr. Campbell writes in the signature mystic fashion which is his own:

“The Creator have made natural, skills of art in me, that is the influences, the first man blessing to me, you called him God!”

Dr. Campbell has been writing and performing music since he was in the first of three armies, which martial time began more than two decades ago in 1993. Upon being asked to describe the general motifs, themes, and subjects his three new singles, “Wimbledon Carnival,” “Premier League,” and “Fantastic Cricket,” he again refers to his knowledge of esoteric wisdom unknown to the uninitiated. His response is faithfully reprinted below sic erat scriptum, exactly as Dr. Campbell laid them down.

“It shares the truth of present happiness, reality.

Who no me since 1993, share my views, that I don’t differ from the first sentence above.

My message most time heal the pain and anger, that my listeners face day by day.”

Regarding the name of his music project, Heru Khuti is sometimes defined as the Principle of Divine Justice. The Ausar Auset Society in Hampton Roads, VA writes of Heru Khuti that “It is our responsibility to realize that Divine Protection is insured when we live in harmony with the Eleven Laws of God. Doing so provides us access to Divine Knowledge and Power, and the Courage always to utilize them.”

An official artist’s bio is not to be found for Heru Khuti, however, and neither is there a Facebook page nor Twitter account associated. Dr. Campbell gives his respectable reasons openly.

“No,” he writes, “I wont write a bio until the world no about me in a special way; at this point, the world hardly no, that I exist. When the time is right, I’ll do a perfect bio based on the acceptance of the world. For now I find something temporary to stand. A government never get into power without the peoples acceptance.”

“Wimbledon Carnival,” “Premier League,” and “Fantastic Cricket” by Heru Khuti will be distributed around the world in the near future.

Main Street Lights release new EP ‘The Piñata Project’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The Orange County rockers known as Main Street Lights have released their debut extended-play album, titled, “The Piñata Project.” The record is comprised of three introductory tracks for an approximate total listening time of 11 minutes. It has been released on the Main Street Records music label. An upbeat and vivifying record full of irresistible and infectious optimism, “The Piñata Project” represents an enthusiastically satisfying introduction to this endlessly fun, new-school punk band from Southern California.

Main Street Lights cite as main artistic influences Blink-182, Jimmy Eat World, Green Day, New Found Glory, and Foo Fighters. Of these, two of the five have strong ties to Orange County, where the ’90s “new-school” punk rock sound was primarily founded. Bands such as Pennywise, Guttermouth, Offspring and NOFX made way for a new, melodic sound that became the mainstay of bands like Blink-182 and Jimmy Eat World, who played mostly in the major scale and had largely positive tones.

“Our interest in music stems from being at the right place at the right time,” write Main Street Lights. “Local Orange County bands were becoming popular as we entered our teen years. The grunge scene had faded and bands were now singing about material the youth could relate to. This equation of local music being recognized on a national scale and the formation of the [Vans] Warped Tour in our own backyard struck a chord with our generation.”

Taking cues from the music that surrounded them growing up, Main Street Lights populates their music with plenty of vocal harmonies and the occasional, hardcore-style breakdown, though grim seriousness is not on the menu for their “Piñata Project” EP. This is music to smile and tap your foot to, not to deeply consider and dissect for lyrical symbolism.

“While we do strive to be relatable, we prefer not to tie the listener down to the lyrics,” comments Main Street Lights. “Allowing the words to capture an emotion or idea is more important than telling you what we, personally, are talking about. We believe that if you leave room for interpretation, the song can be more personal to the listener.”

The result is a record that shows its cards in the first ten seconds, and endears itself to the music fan by the end of the first song. “The Piñata Project” is genuinely heartfelt pop punk from veterans of the latter-day Orange County scene that proves, sometimes there’s just nothing better than a feel-good song with a one-two beat.

“The Piñata Project” by Main Street Lights is available online worldwide beginning 5 December 2013. Get in early.

Main Street Lights are James Gubersky (Vocals/ Rhythm Guitar) / Joe Garcia (Vocals/Bass) / Max Caraveo (Lead Guitar) / Manny Orozco (Drums)

Main Street Lights are in the process of producing their debut LP record and encourage their fans to send comments. “We love communication from the people who enjoy our music! Reach out to us and we will talk back.”

The Sign of Leo releases new single ‘Talking to the Moon’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The rock crew from the Netherlands known as The Sign of Leo have released their latest single, titled, “Talking to the Moon.” The single has been paired with a concurrently released B-side single, “Don’t Let It Pass You By.” Together they are the most significant official releases from the band since their late 2012 singles, “Look Up at the Sky” and “Where Do We Go from Here?” which garnered much affirmative attention from critics and music lovers alike, and which quickly became an important milestone in the Sign of Leo experience.

The immediately striking attribute of the Sign of Leo is the live, genuine rock feel with which they infuse all of their music. Their sound can especially be compared to artists such as David Bowie, John Cale, Talk Talk, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Tears for Fears. Like bands such as these, the high quality of their songwriting may be easily marked while hearing any of their original tunes. It is a striking feature of Sign that each of their songs is infectious, intelligent, and singularly imaginative.

Their overall tone, which is rooted in the ’60s, ’70s and early ’80s styles, is certain to be appreciated by fans of music that does not bury live instrumentation with layer after layer of digital effects, as has become standard in contemporary pop. It will also cheer the audiophile with an ear for well-orchestrated samples and keyboards, which the Sign of Leo use tastefully and gorgeously as accompaniments to their guitars, drums, and bass.

Speaking of his impetus in creating music, singer Martin Erich writes, “I was first introduced to music by my older brother. I picked up a lot of influences that way. From The Beatles to classical music like Bach, and also jazz and blues by, for instance, John Coltrane and Muddy Waters. I started playing guitar and writing my own material later on. The Sign Of Leo is the ultimate result of my efforts. And I’m very pleased with it.”

Music listeners worldwide will be likewise pleased when “Talking to the Moon” by the Sign of Leo becomes available 8 December 2013. Get in early.

Rockers This Is a Human release new EP ‘Almost Lovers’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The rock crew known as This Is a Human (often stylized “This is a Human”) have released their debut EP record album, titled, “Almost Lovers.” The album is comprised of six original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 23 minutes. The band themselves classify their music as post- rock, however fans of such genres as alternative, indie, and early emotional hardcore music will likewise be enthusiastic about this arresting, passionate and surprise release from one of the most standout groups late in 2013.

The official This Is a Human Facebook page places their home base in Kaiserslautern, Germany. However, their band bio states very clearly that, “This is a Human is a rock band from different areas of the United States. The band met in Germany while playing in different music ensembles.” The chemistry between the band members is palpable in their sound, and audiophiles everywhere have great reason to rejoice that the artists happened upon one another in Europe at the time.

The sound of This Is a Human is driving, poppy, and full of chord progressions in the major scale. Their sound is highly melodic, upbeat, and often recalls attributes of the Catherine Wheel, Neutral Milk Hotel and Sunny Day Real Estate. Not unlike songs by those artists, their themes are often personal and romantic in nature, as may be intuited from the title of their new EP, and their songs are written in such a way as to maximize the effect of the lyrics. The delivery of their music is consistently high-impact

This Is a Human are Jonathan Johnson (vocals, guitar), Kyle Richardson (guitar), Tyler Goodwin (bass), and Vince Magno (drums).

“Almost Lovers” by This Is a Human is available online worldwide. Get in early, audiophiles.

Circuit release new LP record ‘Codes’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

The London music crew known as Circuit have released their newest LP record album, titled, “Codes.” The album is comprised of eight original tracks for an approximate total listening time of one hour. A rollicking, ingenious, painstakingly orchestrated record that draws from nearly every available genre of music, Circuit’s “Codes” is an achievement bespeaking musical creative greatness and genuine artistic integrity in its each and every attribute.

Circuit, who boast a whopping nine members, cite as main artistic influences such titans of composition as Bjork, Pink Floyd, Gyorgy Ligeti, Django Bates, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. As likely seems intuitive therefore, their music is intellectually satisfying in the utmost, but also grounded in a carefree, no-frills tone that carries a raw, garage-band feel.

This sonic whimsicality, combined with the complex textures of jazz music and the movement-based composition of classical music, results in a kind of experimental rock that can earnestly be described as an alternative to alternative music, as well as something truly new: alternative-alternative, as it were.

“We are all graduates from different music colleges and universities across the UK and Europe,” Circuit writes, “but our music background is different. Some of us studied jazz, whereas the others did classical music or sonic-arts courses, along with playing for years with other bands – everything from pop, rock, jazz and classical music to free-improv and live music for theatre and dance performances.”

In addition to being musical brain candy (as opposed to brain ‘food’ – Circuit is more fun) “Codes” by Circuit is a lyrically deliberate and poetic collection of songs.

“The album shares a lot of different messages with its listeners,” they write, “from highlighting the problem of over-consumption and mechanization of all aspects of life in today’s western society, to a piece about Nikola Tesla and his madnesses in relation to his genius side.”

Like a novel by James Joyce, the album is chock full with signs and symbols. Its title is both literal and figurative.

“’The Codes’ contains coded messages using 3 different types of codes,” Circuit write of their title track. “’Thank You from the Mountain’ is a song using a literal translation from Polish to English as the basis of a word-play, and some surreal confusion caused by that.”

“Codes” by Circuit is available online worldwide. It has been released with an official music video for “Thank You from the Mountain,” viewable from their official website at http://www.circuitmusic.eu/.

Get in early, audiophiles. Indeed, get there hours early.

Three Parts Dead release debut self-titled EP ‘Three Parts Dead’

The East Coast US band known as Three Parts Dead have released their eponymous debut EP record, “Three Parts Dead.” The album includes five original tracks for approximately 20 minutes’ playing time. It serves as a stunning, even shocking introduction to a group that has weathered years of lineup changes to appear in their present, evolved and most stunning incarnation. Three Parts Dead stands as part of the growing evidence that musicians are returning to the soul of excellent music and getting off the industry’s last, lame bandwagons.

Three Parts Dead is difficult to place in terms of sound without referring to fairly obscure bands, because the 3PD sound is located between the usual lines. There was a brief time at the beginning of alternative rock that blended elements of glam and metal, creating seminal bands like the legendary Mother Love Bone (who in turn helped create Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and others). “Three Parts Dead” by 3PD has many – many, God bless them – many of the triumphantly exultant attributes of those early alternative bands.

Three Parts Dead vocalist Mike Patton sings with a gritty, arrogant, gorgeous voice that is reminiscent of Mother Love Bone’s singer, Andrew Wood. Patton is passionate, dynamic, and delivers his lines with an arresting flair and understated style that bespeaks his excellent taste. Bass player JC and drummer Ramon Miquilena play like pyromaniac Siamese twins, joined at the point of groove but each explosive at their respective instruments. 3PD also sports the fighter-pilot quickness of “Fitz” Fitzback on lead guitar, who is capable of sonorous ballad melodies as well as screaming, antagonizing riffs like the one-note middle finger he plucks out at the crescendo of “Tattoo’d Toy,” the likes of which hasn’t been done since Bad Religion’s “Atomic Garden” solo in 1991.

This latter reference to nineties punk rock hints at another ingredient to the Three Parts Dead sound, that aforementioned tone and style of which is so hard to pin down. There have been bands between the genres that, like 3PD, were metal without glam, emotional hardcore without “emo,” alternative without – well, they were just alternative. The remarkable vocals, flawless songwriting, and high-octane charge of 3PD will make fans of Into Another (also from the East Coast) love Three Parts Dead instantly. Fans of Southern California’s Farside will also hear many excellent similarities. The EP is not an homage to what was, though. It is an affirmation, a declaration that, regardless of all today’s try-hard music that isn’t any fun anymore, Three Parts Dead is out there slaying it, adrenaline rushing in visible waves through the audience, kicking absolute and total backside.

Craig Wettner of the popular music blog, “Blogs N’ Roses” writes of their debut self-titled EP, “Put ‘Three Parts Dead’ on your stereo in your Ford Festiva and you will arrive at least 10 minutes early. You can’t help but mash down the accelerator when a song like ‘Feed’ comes on.”

Nevertheless, as explosive and thrilling as this power-packed little EP is, fans swear that seeing 3PD perform firsthand is the real deal, and their live shows continue to garner worrisome amounts of infamy on the East Coast. “You might regret it the next morning,” threatens their bio, “but you’re guaranteed to love it at the time.”

“Three Parts Dead” by Three Parts Dead is available everywhere online beginning April 17, 2013.
