Dreamstate Emergency releases new LP ‘Oneirophobia’

The creative crew called Dreamstate Emergency have released their new LP, titled, “Oneirophobia.” The album is comprised of nine original tracks for a running total of half an hour. A brutal, shocking, stabbing record with all the ferocity and viciousness that speed and death metal have been aiming to achieve for more than thirty years, “Oneirophobia” is all that is horrifyingly wrong with the world, wrapped up in a set list that will chill bones, grip hearts, and strip the paint off of household appliances at appropriately high volumes.

This being roundly and explicitly understood, “Oneirophobia” is a work of great artistic integrity, vivid color, and genius-level composition. It is metal for the thinking man. Perhaps best categorized as experimental metal more than anything else, it belongs next to Neurosis in the audiophile’s cherished record collection. Like Neurosis, Dreamstate Emergency is not afraid of digital instrumentation and effects that are often frightening to the core. The careful listener will hear air-raid sirens, faraway shell explosions, and much, much more. Additionally, they boast vocals that shriek and howl, scream and tear in ways Metallica’s James Hetfield has always wished he could pull off.

Dreamstate Emergency’s drums pound in tribal, occult patterns that evoke visions of bonfires, chants, and black hoods. Their guitars are like an ocean of orchestrated noise, a chorus of demonic sirens’ calls from deep beneath the earth. The brilliance of their guitar playing is perhaps best exemplified in their track, “Out of Body Experience.” The listener who can hear the song through to its end without the hairs on his forearms standing up has no soul. Their songwriting is masterful and tasteful, often surprisingly, almost impossibly precise. Their decision to leave “The Awakening” in all its beautiful simplicity at barely over a minute long shows an understanding of musical principles most artists never garner in decades of writing and performing.

All in all, “Oneirophobia” is likely the best metal album of 2013 so far, and may hold this title through to next year. No metal fan should do without it, and music fans in general would do well to get over any phobias of their own and visit this dark, scary place called Dreamstate Emergency.

“Oneirophobia” by Dreamstate Emergency is available online worldwide.

JaCee and the Jags release new LP record ‘Risky Luv’

The musician and man of the world known simply as JaCee has released his new flagship LP record, “Risky Luv,” with his crew of creativity called the Jags. The album has been released on the Jacee Music Ltd. music label. With approximately 45 minutes’ worth of excellent listening, “Risky Luv” by JaCee and the Jags makes for a comprehensive introduction to this eclectic musical mastermind from Massachusetts. It is standing proof that JaCee knows exactly how music should be done, and a stunning reminder that music done right just doesn’t come around often enough, anymore.

The sheer talent showcased on “Risky Luv” is staggering. JaCee’s style changes from track to track like Caribbean trade winds, proving him to be elastic in his tastes and capabilities to an almost schizophrenic level. Throughout the record, a consistent thread of absolute flawlessness and 60s-era cool connects one song to the other.

Otherwise, JaCee’s songs can be as disparate as sea and sky. He recalls the verve-charged proto-punk rock of The Kinks, and variously the cigarette-and-three-button suit sound of Henry Mancini. He cha-chas into the Latin realms of bossa nova, and bass-lines his way down into deep, groovy funk (a la Bill Withers). He spends time in the gutter with a gritty, raw sound reminiscent of Nick Cave, and somehow visits ’80s synth pop in between. Blues. Jazz. His incarnations are seemingly infinite. Most of the compositions on “Risky Luv” are originals, but some standards are also rendered in the Jags’ own edgy fashion.

JaCee cites as main artistic influences Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Henry Mancini, The Beatles, The Kinks, and Frank Sinatra. He is joined on “Risky Luv” by his associated masters of musicianship, the Jags. Their ranks on his new LP include “The Inimitable” Paul Shoemaker playing keyboard and trumpet, “Smokin’” John Squibb providing tenor saxophone, and Fitzy the Fuzz-Electric Guitar.

Lars Alexander releases new EP ‘Like an Animal’

The Norwegian composer of electronic dance music known as Lars Alexander has released his new flagship EP record, titled, “Like an Animal.” The record is comprised of six new, original tracks for a total playing time of approximately 21 minutes. A record of stand-up, standout verve and groove, “Like an Animal” is proof that Lars Alexander deserves a place among the best EDM artists working in the underground house music scene today.

“Like an Animal” is Alexander’s most recent official release since his “Star Walking” EP, which appeared in May of this year on the heels of the “My Melodic Trance” EP, which hit digital shelves in January. This string of releases makes Alexander one of EDM’s most prolific writers of the year so far. Still, the most impressive part about his music is that he is able to write and produce his albums with an unerring ear for striking power and beauty that maintains a consistent gorgeousness throughout the series. His beats are positive, active, and energetic, perfect for the nightclub and the dance floor, but also excellent casual listening for headphones around town.

Alexander is relatively new to his career as a musician, having retired at a young age from a wildly successful dancing career. He has been the Norwegian Dancing Champion six times, and has represented Norway in ballroom dancing competitions around the world for many years. Along with his wife, he has been dancing professionally on the popular television program, “Dancing With the Stars” for five years running.

Commenting on his change, Alexander writes, “After I stopped my competitive dancing career I had the time to start making music again, and I love it. Just like in dancing, I love how you have to be creative and passionate when making music. This is my fourth release, third EP, and I hope I can continue to develop and make music for many years to come!”

With nothing stopping him and a growing legion of fans, Lars Alexander is likely to produce many more records in the future, and they will very likely exhibit the same high quality as “Like an Animal.”

Khmer rocker Solid Stone releases new LP ‘Black Rose’

The Khmer solo artist of heavy metal rock music known as Solid Stone has released his new LP record album, “Black Rose,” to widespread critical and fan acclaim. The album is comprised of 10 original tracks for a total playing time of approximately 42 minutes. It has been released on the Sila Records music label. A collection of original rock compositions from one of the finest instrumentalists and performers Cambodia has ever produced, “Black Rose” by Solid Stone is certain to put Khmer metal on the musical map internationally, once and for all.

The sound of “Black Rose” stretches across the spectrum of rock possibilities. It is charged with adrenaline, as powerful as an erupting volcano, and more emotional than a Russian opera. Not to be missed is “Path to Goodness (Plov Sang Bon),” a haunting, chilling song that couples a dark, shadowy organ with Solid Stone’s electrifying guitar. The record is also occasionally upbeat and full of the fun that has kept rock ‘n’ roll more popular than any other style of music since the 1950s, such as in the track, “Get Up! (Krok Chho Lerng!).” “You Want the Moon? (Jong Ban Preah Chan?)” is melodic, passionate and intense, like the best emo bands of the early 2000s. The album’s opening and closing tracks, “Miss You Baby” and “Why Are My Tears Falling? (Hait Avey Tirk Pnek Ho?)” showcase Solid Stone’s remarkably gorgeous vocals as well as his poetic and well-constructed lyrics.

Solid Stone is the stage name of the endlessly talented Kang Piseth, who lives in the capitol city of Phnom Penh. He lists as main artistic influences classic metal rockers such as Van Halen, Dream Theater, and Whitesnake. He has been writing and playing music since the age of eight.

He writes of his record that it revolves around the themes of “love, broken hearts, encouragement, believing in oneself, staying strong in mind, and the doing of good in the world.”

Piseth is the first Khmer artist to be signed by the ever-more-popular Sila Records.

Pianist Wayne Jones releases new LP ‘Relaxing Piano Vol. 1’

The pianist and composer known as Wayne Jones has released his newest collection of original songs, the aptly titled “Relaxing Piano Vol. 1.” The album is comprised of 11 tracks for a total listening time of nearly an hour, making for a round treatment of the Jones sound and feel, as well as a comprehensive introduction to this master of songwriting for piano. A cool, natural record with warmth and goodwill flowing through it like a mountain stream, “Relaxing Piano Vol. 1” is a perfect album and a true work of the finest art.

“Relaxing Piano Vol 1” transforms a room instantly. Jones’ presence at his keys is implied, rather than felt, as the sonorousness of his playing fills the air like wafts of warm, fresh air. His compositions are intuitive, earnest, unassuming, humble, and bear a simplicity that bespeaks great taste. They exemplify the principle noted by Antoine de Saint-Exupery when he wrote, “A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” Jones never overplays, nor aims at the abstract, nor lapses into predictability. His pieces are plainly pretty and overtly wonderful, and boast an exceptionally high quality that places his gorgeous record far, far above anything the classiest wine bar is likely to have playing on the stereo.

Speaking candidly of his artistic goals for “Relaxing Piano Vol. 1,” Jones writes, “I hope that when someone listens to this album they might find a little relief from the stress of this busy world in which we all work and play, and that the music can help them connect with that part of us that gets pushed aside when we forget to take time and breathe.”

Wayne Jones’ soothing and subtly arresting record, “Relaxing Piano Vol. 1,” is available online everywhere, with which publication the quality of life on planet Earth has come up a notch. Why be left out?

Barb C releases new single ‘Zulu’

The mysterious new music artist known as Barb C has released his remarkable new single, “Zulu,” to the adulation of fans and critics alike everywhere. The song is the most significant release from Barb C the world has seen to date, and promises to intrigue audiophiles from the streets of Los Angeles to the sands of the Sahara with its uniquely tribal, humanistic sound.

Barb C’s track “Zulu” is as enigmatic as it is entrancing. Its composition moves from active and vivacious to shadowy and lurking, measure by measure. Its beats are warm and natural, supplied by means of congas. By far the most magical and effective part of this miraculous work of musical culture is Barb C’s vocals. He sings with the voice of an aged lion, sometimes speaking in rhythm like a shaman evoking the gods of the land through gorgeous, ancient chants, and sometimes simply intoning with the power of earth and sky, “Zuuuuu-luuuuu… Zuuuuu-luuuuu…” The impact of this cannot be overstated. It is arresting and beautiful, fearsome and majestic all at once. “Zulu” is a must-hear track by all accounts for all fans of music everywhere.

Barb C names as main artistic influences Jay-Z, Coldplay, Usher, and Rihanna, but his musical style is all his own. As a musician, Barb C fully intends to blend into the background and take a backseat to his art, itself.

Regarding this atypical stance, he writes, “’Barb C’ is a pseudonym. It stands for a new African voice. I really would like the song to be bigger than the artist. It is a great dance song.”

With excellent, somewhat jazzy piano playing over infectiously groovy drums and percussion, “Zulu” is indeed unstoppable. The following is an excerpt of some of the lyrical poetry of “Zulu.”

“Come hither, my ladies, come hither,

Check out my abs

Spring up like an antelope, run like a cat

Zulu, Zulu, Zulu, Zulu

Zulu…”

Truly, there has never before been a song quite like “Zulu” by Barb C. It should be experienced by everyone at the earliest possible convenience.

Kris Jobson releases new single ‘Say Yeah!’

The Kingston-born musician known as Kris Jobson has released his energetic new single, “Say Yeah!” The track is Jobson’s most significant official release to date, and stands as an example of this young entertainer’s endless talent and creativity. A groovy, upbeat song with rhythm in its soul and its heart on its sleeve, “Say Yeah!” is certain to put Kris Jobson on the charts for one and all to see, while his international legion of fans continue to clamor for more.

Kris Jobson’s voice is strong and masculine, somewhat reminiscent of Jamaican ’80s superhero, Eddie Grant. His tone contrasts well with the bright and sunny feel of his instrumentation, which is dance hall friendly and lends itself well to a vivacious, party atmosphere. Jobson’s sound is cutting-edge and new, a blend of reggae, reggaeton, and alternative rock music which he has termed “island rock,” a suitable tag for his playful and fun style. Jobson names as main artistic influences the likes of Bob Marley, Seal, Third World, Prince, John Legend, and Sean Paul.

Kris Jobson is a born entertainer who has performed on TV, film, and stage, but who has only recently ventured into the recording arts as a solo artist. He has lived and played in a bevy of international hubs of culture, such as New York, Los Angeles, Milan, Rome, Berlin, Cologne, Paris, Zurich, and many more. In addition to English, he speaks Italian and French. This multinational enculturation has helped to sculpt the character with which Jobson infuses his music.

Speaking candidly of the themes of “Say Yeah!” Jobson writes, “[My] music is definitely a ‘feel good’ type of music that has many world sounds in addition to reggae. At the base of my lyrics there is a message of hope and personal strength that encourages solidarity and clarity of purpose, and celebrates the power of an empowered sense of self and the power of choice.”

Jobson feels great optimism for the human spirit, both individually and socially. “Every moment is fertile with the possibility of achieving our potential greatness,” he continues, “but we have to first make that fundamental ‘choice’ to align our mind, thoughts and actions with that which we seek. That is my message.”
